It recently hit Neil and I that we haven't been out to a fun dinner since before we got engaged! So Neil made reservations at a new-ish restaurant in Chicago called Embeya (http://www.embeya.com/), which is "progressive Asian cuisine." The dinner was amazing. First of all, the staff was super nice. When we sat down I asked the hostess how to pronounce the name of the restaurant (em-bay-uh) and she said that Embeya actually is a term of endearment used for the youngest in the family. Naturally, I loved that. The ambiance is super cool and trendy with super high ceilings and Asian influenced decor. We went to town on the menu (naturally) and ordered a bunch of small hot and cold plates. Some of the items we got were; Green Papaya, the Summer Roll, Shrimp Dumplings (which were my favorite!!!), Mussels (probably my least favorite of the meal, but still pretty good), and the Kono Kanpachi. We also had an order of rice and brussels sprouts, which were unreal! The main dish we split was the Noodles. They were so great!! We ended with Sticky Rice which was served cured mango. Overall, I thought this place was super good! I would definitely go back and recommend that others try it as well. Neil got a cocktail and I had a glass of champagne. The prices weren't way over the top, but it's definitely an expensive night out! It was super fun to go out on a date again with Neil, too!
Saturday we got up bright and early and headed up to Evanston for the Northwestern vs. Iowa game with my family. We met Megan and Jenny on the train, popped a bottle of champagne and made our way north! My cousin Sydney and her entire family went to Iowa, so they bleed black and gold! They are so much fun to go to and watch games with because they are so into it. It makes me wish my family had a school we all went to over the years! We met at my cousin Mark's house to pregame. Mark lives about 10 minutes from the stadium, so every other year we meet at his place to have some bagels, donuts, beers and mimosas to prep for the game. Mark and Jimmy (Syd's husband) live in the area and their brother Joey and his two girls, plus my Uncle Joe were all in town for the weekend as well! It was so fun and an unexpected mini family reunion!
We had such a great time at the game! I probably saw one actual play of football, the rest of the time, my sister and I were playing with Cameron and Brandon (Jim and Syd's boys) two of the cutest and coolest boys in the world!
Meg and the boys (Brandon is up front, Cam in the back with the Hawkeyes hat)
We then went back to Mark's for lunch. We ended up chatting/gossiping and watching the boys play in the back yard. Neil and Jenny joined in and played catch with Brandon, Cameron and Ben (Mark's oldest).
Sunday was a bit of a lazy day! We woke up super late and made some breakfast.
My lil' kitchen helper.
Neil and I went to run a quick errand with Megan to Best Buy and then headed back home to relax, cook and clean.
We had planned to carve pumpkins, but instead did a photo op with Clark
And then this happened
Also, while Neil and I were chatting in the kitchen, Clark made his way to the top of his cage...
These cute little things now make me nervous for what he's going to be like when he's 70+ pounds!
Such a great, relaxing weekend spent with family and friends!
