Tomorrow!!

I leave tomorrow for my friend Annie and Ben's wedding in Key West and I cannot wait!! This is the forecast for the weekend!

Most certainly beats Chicago weather! I hope that B*** Sandy does not totally rip through the East Coast and everyone will be able to make it down safe and sound!

The Scholar

Clark started Puppy School last night, thank God! He's been catching on to some things at home like sit, paw and lay, but we really need to tackle potty training, biting and walking. The class we are in right now has about 8 or 9 other puppies and it's pretty hilarious.

First of all, we are all in a circle in this tiny room and I feel like I'm in a support group or something:

Me: "Hi, I'm Katie and this is Clark. We are hoping to work on potty training in this class."
Class: "Hi, Clark"

Lady Next to Us: "This is Pebbles and we want to work on his barking"
Class: "Hi Pebbles"

It's pretty funny to see all the different types of puppies, too! There is Kanye, who is a Cane Corso (he's going to be about 165 lbs!!), then Oreo who is a little mix, Baba Ganoush, who is a French Bulldog, and a few other mixes in there. Our teacher seems to be pretty good, too! Thank God Clark would literally kill for a treat, so he was responding well to what we went over yesterday.

Fingers crossed things go well over the next 6 weeks!

Weekend Wrap Up

This past weekend was the perfect fall weekend! It kicked off with my sister and I getting a pedicure after work on Friday. Such a great way to start a weekend,  it felt so amazing I just wanted to curl up and take a nap afterwards, but I had a date to get to!

It recently hit Neil and I that we haven't been out to a fun dinner since before we got engaged! So Neil made reservations at a new-ish restaurant in Chicago called Embeya (http://www.embeya.com/), which is "progressive Asian cuisine." The dinner was amazing. First of all, the staff was super nice. When we sat down I asked the hostess how to pronounce the name of the restaurant (em-bay-uh) and she said that Embeya actually is a term of endearment used for the youngest in the family. Naturally, I loved that. The ambiance is super cool and trendy with super high ceilings and Asian influenced decor. We went to town on the menu (naturally) and ordered a bunch of small hot and cold plates. Some of the items we got were; Green Papaya, the Summer Roll, Shrimp Dumplings (which were my favorite!!!), Mussels (probably my least favorite of the meal, but still pretty good), and the Kono Kanpachi. We also had an order of rice and brussels sprouts, which were unreal! The main dish we split was the Noodles. They were so great!! We ended with Sticky Rice which was served cured mango. Overall, I thought this place was super good! I would definitely go back and recommend that others try it as well. Neil got a cocktail and I had a glass of champagne. The prices weren't way over the top, but it's definitely an expensive night out! It was super fun to go out on a date again with Neil, too!

Saturday we got up bright and early and headed up to Evanston for the Northwestern vs. Iowa game with my family. We met Megan and Jenny on the train, popped a bottle of champagne and made our way north! My cousin Sydney and her entire family went to Iowa, so they bleed black and gold! They are so much fun to go to and watch games with because they are so into it. It makes me wish my family had a school we all went to over the years! We met at my cousin Mark's house to pregame. Mark lives about 10 minutes from the stadium, so every other year we meet at his place to have some bagels, donuts, beers and mimosas to prep for the game. Mark and Jimmy (Syd's husband) live in the area and their brother Joey and his two girls, plus my Uncle Joe were all in town for the weekend as well! It was so fun and an unexpected mini family reunion!

We had such a great time at the game! I probably saw one actual play of football, the rest of the time, my sister and I were playing with Cameron and Brandon (Jim and Syd's boys) two of the cutest and coolest boys in the world!

Meg and the boys (Brandon is up front, Cam in the back with the Hawkeyes hat)

We then went back to Mark's for lunch. We ended up chatting/gossiping and watching the boys play in the back yard. Neil and Jenny joined in and played catch with Brandon, Cameron and Ben (Mark's oldest).

Mark does such a good job hosting this and I always have such a great time! Thanks, Mark for the awesome hospitality!

Sunday was a bit of a lazy day! We woke up super late and made some breakfast.

                                                                       My lil' kitchen helper.

Neil and I went to run a quick errand with Megan to Best Buy and then headed back home to relax, cook and clean.

We had a little cider and Whiskey with cinnamon.

Did a little laundry (can you find Clark?!)

Neil made seasonal soup, beer can chicken, fingerling potatoes and asparagus for dinner

Megan and I looked through wedding magazines and made an attempt at getting together some things, but then came to the ultimate conclusion that nothing can be done until we get out to California, it's KILLING ME!! So, instead we drank wine :)

We had planned to carve pumpkins, but instead did a photo op with Clark

And then this happened

Also, while Neil and I were chatting in the kitchen, Clark made his way to the top of his cage...

These cute little things now make me nervous for what he's going to be like when he's 70+ pounds!

Such a great, relaxing weekend spent with family and friends!

The only picture I have from the night of our engagement party!

It makes me nervous that Neil looks so nervous! Hopefully it's just about making a speech!

It's a Small World

I feel like I'm reminded of what a small world it is on a daily basis, especially here in Chicago. Whether it's seeing someone with a Dayton shirt on, meeting someone from Doylestown or bumping into someone getting out of a cab, this town seems to get smaller by the day.

This week had two very small world encounters:

1. I went out at lunch to Trader Joe's to get some ingredients for home made pizza (which was amazing, BTW) and I bumped into my friend Mary Kate's sister, Bridget, who I love. I never go to that area, especially during the day like that, so I thought it was pretty funny to bump into each other.

2. Same day, same time, Neil was riding his bike home (he has been going home at lunch to take out Clark), he was at a stop light and looked up and saw my sister Megan at the opposite side! So random!

I love stories like that! It makes me smile and makes me so happy I live in Chicago!

Yumm

Last night Neil made stuffed peppers and they were awesome! I haven't actually had stuffed peppers before, but I'm a BIG fan now! Neil's a great cook, and I think this is going to be a new staple in our house!

Unrelated, earlier this week we picked up the left over booze from our engagement party and I really can't concentrate on much else in my life right now knowing that we have oodles full of champagne in our place!! It makes me one happy camper!

Happy Friday!!

McDonald's is my closest ally

Who knew? I went to get a cup of coffee this morning and saw that McDonald's has their seasonal cups out already!! This really makes me so happy for many reasons:

1. Nothing is better than the Holidays. I love Thanksgiving and Christmas! Not just for the presents (which are obviously a bonus), but nothing makes me happier than a Christmas tree. It just makes me smile. I also love all the other things that come along with the season; cute decorations, candles, fire places, snuggling up, great movies, happy children, upcoming time off from work... I could go on for days!

2. Once again, I hate Halloween. So it makes me happy to see that McDonald's has also chose to ignore the lame holiday and move on to the more important ones :)

3. I just like red cups.

So turn up the Christmas tunes and put up your tree because it's officially the Holidays (according to McDonald's and I).

You Know What Really Grinds My Gears?

Working in an office. It seems like everyday we have to give money for something! Wedding present, baby shower, birthday cake, yada, yada, yada. It sweet people do these things, but really, is it totally necessary? I'm pretty sure I got a job to make money. I like all my coworkers, so this has nothing to do with them, it's just the office environment. Each job I've had, we always are giving money for something!

As they say in Jerry MaGuire, it's not show friends, it's show business!

In other news

I hate Halloween and it's coming up quickly. I hate being scared and all things associated with Halloween are gross. I also hate how girls use it as an opportunity to dress up super slutty and guys constantly make references to how great of a holiday it is because of that reason. That being said, I'm kind of excited for Halloween this year because of this:

That's not even the full costume!! Can't wait to take Super Clark out!

Really?

I saw this on the USWeekly App yesterday:

Really? This is headline news? Why a wife is voting for her husband? I think I'd rather read about Kim Kardashian's kitten from Kanye.

Love in the Air

This weekend one of my college roommates, Caitlin, got married!!! It was such an amazing wedding and Caitlin looked beautiful!!

Thursday night, Caitlin's cousin, Catherine and I drove up to Coloma, Michigan to kick the weekend off at the Hosty/Ryan compound (where Caitlin's bachlorette party was held). Caitlin, Hunter (the groom), and some of Caitlin's cousins were already there and we spent the night celebrating and drinking!

Friday we got up and got to working on the finishing touches for the wedding! Caitlin did an amazing job completing everything that needed to be done, while staying cool as a cucumber! Mr. Hosty made us breakfast while a few of us finished off the programs before heading off to the hotel to get ready for the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner!

The ladies dressing their scarecrow in formal attire for the wedding

The rehearsal dinner with at the hotel that most of the guests were staying at and it was beautiful! It was located right on the lake and overlooked the water and gorgeous trees with changing leafs. There were some beautiful speeches at the dinner and everyone was so excited and geared up for the next day. Later that night, one of our other roommates, Erin arrived in town and I may have stayed up later and indulged more than I should have.

Hunter and I at the rehearsal. I love Hunter. Being with him takes me back to the good old days at Dayton where he'd take his shirt off and dance to Petey Pablo in our kitchen.

Saturday morning was a bit of a rocky start, but we all made it to get our hair and make up done and kick the day off! After getting cleaned up, we started looking a bit like ladies! The bridesmaids all got ready together and sat around waiting to have a job to do! We finally met up with Caitlin and her parents (they did pictures together back at their lake house) and when I saw her it took my breath away! She had kept her dress under lock and key so we were all seeing it for the first time and she looked BEAUTIFUL!!

The ceremony was lovely and Caitlin and Hunter were so happy and in love (after the nerves died down). We then jumped on a bus to go take pictures at the lake. At that point, everyone was feeling good and ready to celebrate all night long!

Caitlin and her cousin/maid of Honor, Jean
                                                                   Hunter and Catherine
Had to snap a picture of Hunter with his ring on! It looked so crazy to see!!

We then made our way to the beautiful reception! The venue was actually somewhat outdoors, and so pretty! Caitlin did a beautiful job decorating! The center pieces, straws, lights and all the little touches she made were amazing and very "her!" We all had so much fun dancing the night away!!
The back of Caitlin's dress. AMAZING
Caitlin and Mary Kate getting down!
Beautiful. Caitlin and Hunter let three Chinese lanterns loose into the sky to represent Hunter's dad, Hunter's good friend and Caitlin's cousin Robert who have all recently passed away. This was beautiful and such a special moment for everyone.
Laura and Krista "dancing" with the bride.

After the wedding, we all headed over to a late night bar in our hotel, and across the street from the wedding. I have to say that was an awesome bonus of their wedding, everything was super close and in walking distance so cars and driving were not an issue at all! Well played, Caitlin and Hunter!

Caitlin and Laura. Caitlin still looks beautiful 12 hours after getting her hair and make up done! So impressed!
                                                                              Catherine, Hunter and Caitlin

The wedding was beautiful, Caitlin looked stunning, Hunter looked handsome and neither could stop smiling all night! It was an amazing day and excellent weekend! Congratulations, Caitlin and Hunter and thanks for letting me be a part of your special day!!

Family Time

After our very exciting weekend, I was lucky enough to have my parents stay another few days! Monday, I had to work, but my mom, sister, dad and I went out for dinner to Piccolo Sogno in West Town. I LOVE this place. Neil and I had gone once before and have since talked about going back a million times. They have such amazing pasta and all things Italian.

Tuesday I took the day off to hung out with my mom. We walked around Lincoln Park for most of the day and looking at wedding books, dresses, invites, etc. Although it's hard to actually "do" anything right now for the wedding, it's still so much fun to gather ideas!

My mom and I went back to my place to hang out for a bit and Clark was being such a bad dog (biting) so my mom got him something very appropriate:

It's a little inmate Halloween costume. I'm starting to get slightly worries about Clark's weight. The costume was for dogs 15-30 lbs, and this was most certainly a "muscle" fit on him. Maybe I should lay off the pup peroni's.

Last night we went out for one last dinner before my parents got out of dodge. We ended up going to Cafe Spiaggio which was excellent. Another amazing Italian feast  but most importantly the company was awesome! I love when my parents come to town, we always have so much fun! I cant wait to see them in a few weeks at Thanksgiving in Philly!

Also, I caught Clark reading the paper this morning. I told you he'd move up from the Red Eye. He's on to the Wall Street Journal! #smartdog

S*it Girls Say

I forgot how much I love these clips! My sister sent me the 4th episode today (although I think it was posted a few weeks back). AMAZING. As Megan pointed out, we said every single one of them this weekend, especially the last line!

Weekend Wrap Up

Best.Weekend.Ever!! Seriously! This weekend was the "official" kick off to me and Neil's wedding and it started with a serious bang!!

Friday night Neil and I had my parents (who were in from Philly), my sister Kelly (also in from Philly), my sister Megan, Neil's parents and his sister Lizzy over for dinner and for them all to officially meet! It went really well and we all had a great time chatting, watching Clark play and getting excited for the engagement party! Since this was the first time our parents were meeting, Neil and I were both a little nervous but realized very quickly there was no need to be!

Saturday I skipped out of bed because I was so excited for the day! Neil, Kelly and I took Clark for a long walk around the city. We headed up to the Bean and Millennium Park because Kelly had not seen them before and circled around the loop to tire little Clark out! We then picked up my parents and met my sister Megan at Old Town Social for some lunch and football. After hanging out for a bit Neil and Kelly and I headed back to our place to prep for the night! Lizzy and her boyfriend, Kevin came over for awhile before the party to play with Clark a bit too!

Finally, it was time to go!! Neil and I both go super nervous on the cab ride over. I'm not totally sure why, but it was a feeling of nerves and excitement and the happiness of having our friends and family together to celebrate!

The party was at my extremely generous and gracious friend Mary Kate and Kirk's house. First, let me say that my sister Megan did an unreal job in planning and putting together the party! She had a huge spread of great food, a massive bar downstairs and cute decorations all over. Megan and Mary Kate worked together throughout the process and they really just did such an amazing job. Everything looked beautiful and they were such great hostesses. We chatted with friends, met new faces and started introducing the families to one another this weekend. I honestly could not stop smiling the whole night! We are both so thankful to our friends and family that came and celebrated. Such an amazing feeling! I ended up over staying my welcome, and finally left around 4:30 am. Thank you so much to Mary Kate and Kirk for hosting the event at your amazing house and thank you to Megan for putting all your energy into making the party flawless!! We love you both so much and are so happy and grateful to you two!

(I was so busy talking that I did not take any pictures! More to come soon!!)

Sunday was so ugly outside so my parents came over and we ate left overs, watched movies and just hung out all day. It was the perfect end to the most amazing weekend!

Happy Friday!!

                                                               High Five!! It's Friday!!

Lots going on this weekend!! Our parents are meeting and it's our engagement party!! I'm so excited for everything and can't even begin to thank my sister and Mary Kate enough for all they have done!! Love you girls!!

Couch or not?

Even though some people think I blog too much about Clark (ahem, Jenny and Megan) you're going to have to deal with it! You try getting a puppy and not talking about him!!

So last night, after I cleaned the crap out of our apartment I said to Neil that we can't let Clark on the couch because I just cleaned it and don't want him to make it dirty. As we were cooking dinner, Clark jumped on the couch and we both yelled at him to get off. Then it happened about three more times and we were both over it, plus he looked so cute! By the end of the night, the three of us were on the couch watching the debates and snoozing away.

Sometimes you just have to pick your battles.

Two Door Cinema Club

Last night my sister took me to see "Two Door Cinema Club" at the Riviera in Chicago. The show was amazing! She's a big fan of theirs and I had not head any of their songs before last night. They were so great and I loved all their songs! My sisters friend Jenny came and joined us as well. It was super fun and definitely different then my typical Tuesday night!! I highly recommend listening to some of their songs, you'll be hooked!

Thanks, Meg!

Tired Pup

One of my favorite things about Clark is his yawns. He yawns and stretches all the time. We've been carrying him downstairs when he has to go outside because he hasn't really mastered not peeing in the hallways yet. So when I wake him up in the morning (or afternoon, or evening) he yawns the entire way downstairs. These aren't just your normal everyday yawns, they are huge!! His tongue curls out and he sounds like an old creaky door opening. It's awesome and he just rapid fire yawns for about 5 minutes straight.

It almost makes waking up at 5:30 every morning worth while!

My coworkers must think I'm crazy

One of the things on my "to do" list is a Halloween costume for Clark. I called the website today to see if they had a better idea of what size I should order, here's how that conversation went:

Customer Service Rep: Hello, what website are you calling in reference to?

Me: Fantasy Toyland

Customer Service Rep: Ok, what can I help you with on the website? Are you looking for a pet Halloween costume?

Me: I'm looking at a superman cape and can't decide between small and medium. He's not that big, but he could be by Halloween.

Customer Service Rep: Ok, a small is 14 inches and and a medium is 16 inches.

Me: Ok, so a small is 14 inches and a medium is 16 inches. Let me go home and measure him and I'll place the order online. Thanks for your help!

After I hung up I thought how AWFUL that conversation must have sounded from someone just hearing my side of it! Note to self: even if there are only a handful of people in the office, step outside and call when it comes to a dog's Halloween costume!

Monday Blues

Maybe it's the super cold temps in Chicago, but I did NOT want to be at work on Monday! I really didn't even want to leave my apartment! But to make things a little better, Neil had a great Clark story to share; for the last few weeks, Neil has been riding his bike home at lunch to take out Clark. Yesterday he was in the kitchen and heard a weird noise, when he went to go see what it was, he found this:

What makes me laugh most about this picture is that Clark really does need a bath. He must have known he smelled! He's trying to subtly tell his parents to get off their lazy butts and wash him!

Yesterday my mom also had her shoulder surgery. All went well and the doctor said he was really happy they ended up going in there and fixing her (they originally wanted to let it heal naturally). Although she was in a lot of pain yesterday and still today, the doctor said tomorrow should be better and she will be ready to head to Chicago this weekend! She's being such a trooper about the whole thing and we're all praying for a speedy recovery! Go Mo, Go!!

Weekend Wrap Up

I couldn't blog yesterday because I was severely depressed that the weekend was over! I had such a great time with my sister!

Friday I went to Megan's house after work (well, after taking Clark out) and we just chatted and played catch up! I feel like I've hardly seen Meg since she moved here! Neil ended up joining us and we talked the night away. Later in the evening we made ourselves go out and get something to eat. Neil went back to take Clark out and I stayed at Megan's. We still aren't 100% sure why I slept there, but it was a fun night!

Saturday Neil and I took Clark to puppy play time in the morning, which he loved again and finally met a dog that was more his speed (AKA he wasn't the bully this time). I'd also like to point out that Clark was the only puppy that did not have an accident during play time. Afterwards, Neil and I went to lunch and then took the L up to Joe's on Weed to meet up with Neil's friend Bill and my sister Megan to watch the Illinois vs. Wisconsin game.

We then ended up heading back to the South Loop and we met up with another one of Neil's friend, Matt. We had such a great time watching the OSU game and Notre Dame games and made some new Ohio friends at the bar! It was a fun bar and a great environment! What's better than watching college football with your sister and fiance??!

A few of these beer towers were consumed during the games!

Sunday was a domestic day at home. We cleaned, did laundry and just hung out, which felt great!
                                                     Clark helped with the laundry

Neil and I took Clark to the park across the street from our place where he met some new friends, one being a Wheaten Terrier, and he ran himself ragged. We were all beat by the end of the day and wished the weekend could be one day longer!

Training

Man, Clark can really be a jerk sometimes. He's been biting me a ton lately! I think it's time to call in the professionals!
